This is a time of focused light travel. Sagittarius is that period when we leave our dance and appreciation of darkness in Scorpio and enter the focused journey towards the light of the Solstice. We carry our actions and words in a large bundle on our back, like Santa Claus! Whatever we wanted to discard comes along, and like the crisis we have with the trash from our civilization has to be looked at, acknowledged and dealt with or it will overwhelm and define us.
For many years I thought this stone sculpture at Halibut Point in Rockport was a king. But the last time I visited I noticed, he was a peddler, with a heavy sack on his back. And so also this new Moon which takes place in a solar eclipse is both bright and dark. Sagittarius is a fire sign, the light which guides us towards the crack of light which is the moment of the Solstice, 0 degrees of Capricorn. It is a sign during which we can take stock of the load we carry, but cannot see, because it is held behind us.
The Sabian Symbol for this New Moon is ‘a widow’s past brought to light.’ ‘It is possible to joyously herald the dawn from high above the actual stresses of existence, but the new day may be found loaded and darkened by the unfinished business of many a yesterday.’*
Sagittarius is the shaman, the priestess, the peddler who brings us to the light of new insights, but then it never stops there. Each of us is a channel for the light we have forgotten. We all have Sagittarius in our chart, and where it is located and which planets live there, will help us understand this period of dark and light healing.
