Archive for the ‘Death’ Category

This chart promises the potential for both Neptune’s mysterious plague and Pluto’s creaking death cart.  They are in connection for the moment.   But it also promises the construction (Saturn) of a new healing (Chiron).  Perhaps the Earth will benefit from enforced quarantine, perhaps we will make new discoveries around the immune system, but, whatever else, we will never be the same planet or people.   We know we can change everything we take for granted, our work, our social structure, our ability for sudden transformation and potential for infinite resilience.

No surprise, the worldwide wonder of each day continues, as a new Moon begins in Taurus.  The Lunar cycle begins each month when Sun and Moon meet at the same degree.  This particular degree in Taurus has a strong image, a promise we have heard before.

‘The Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow.   Riches that come from linking the celestial and the earthly nature.  ….the bridge used by divine beings to communicate with mortals.   Man need not be overawed by the celestial display of power, for it leads to a fruitful contact with beings of light. ‘  Sabian Symbol for the degree of Sun and Moon in Taurus. *

A Plague and ‘a Pot of Gold at the End of the Rainbow’ is an interesting combination.  How would that look?    Perhaps like this image by Amelia Leonards.

New Moon in Taurus 2020

Astrology, at its best, communicates the connection between ‘celestial and the earthly nature.’   A quick look at this chart shows a ‘bowl’ (or a pot of gold?) pattern with only six houses (segments) of the circle occupied by planets and luminaries.  Looking at the form of the pattern here we see a very clear rainbow (crescent) shape in the placement of the planetary occupants.

Cheek and jowel with the Luminaries is the planet of surprise, and upset, Uranus.  Expect more shaking of your world.  But no one is alone in this place of shock and awe. It is a universal phenomenon.   The Biblical rainbow came after a huge flood, and could be interpreted to mean: Cosmic forces offering peace.  What form will the next message take?

There is an interesting combination of planets in this moment which might give us a clue.    Mars,  shape and form of energy; Mercury, the messenger and healer; and Venus, the expression of love are in a crescent shaped relationship.  Venus in Gemini loves clever rapport, and friendly banter.  Since Gemini is ruled by Mercury, and Mercury is in a sign ruled by Mars, the three seem to be united in their message.   Don’t be afraid to move in new ways, says Mars in Aquarius….think and speak with courage and bravado says Mercury in Aries, respect  the rules of love and friendship says Venus in Gemini.   This recipe spells political courage and activism, new alliances between all those who have been most deeply hurt by this extraordinary challenge to human existence. Maybe it’s time to ask: How do we listen (Mercury) to the passionate (Mars) love (Venus) of each other instead of the powerful interests of those who benefit from our disarray.

But now it’s time to take a close look at the sign of Taurus.  Sun and Moon meet here  every year at this delicious time of spring beauty in the Northern Hemisphere, final harvest Moon in the  South.

Taurus-Web.jpg                                           Painting: Amelia Leonards

When the Moon is in Taurus, she is in her exaltation.  This is a mirror to the last sign, Aries, when the Sun was in his exaltation in Aries.  The Bull is chosen as a sacred symbol of the Moon because his horns are the crescents which mark waxing and waning.  Moon is joyful in a sign ruled by Venus, and loves the mystery of fertility which this symbol honors.  For the Druids Taurus was a sacred time, and the bull was a sacred animal. It’s interesting that Saturn, the great teacher is powerful when located in the two signs, ruled by Venus, Taurus and Libra.  There is some sweet connection between this feared and ancient magician, and the power of the Queen of Love.  The illustration is also connected to the Three of Cups Tarot card. Celebration and gratitude are part of the season. The constellation is connected to the labyrinth of Crete and the sacrifice of a white bull each spring in the Celtic lands. Taurus is one of three Earth signs in the zodiac, and Beltane, the Fire Festival of this element falls on the fifth day of May.   Taurus is ‘fixed’ upon the unfolding of each blossom and the opening of the season of Green.

Each full Moon propels us to rock between two contrary seasons and ‘opposite’ signs!  For me, this spring has been an endless ricochet between the beauty of the earth held in the horns of Taurus,

898

and the deep wet chasm of death, Scorpio, washing through me,  which ties me up each spring between joy and despair!

The desire to hold on to the beauty of this moment, this time, is the the Taurus Sun.

But the profound desire of Scorpio to understand mortality, to plunge into the depths of our spiritual nature held in this full Moon.   This is the measure of the art of Alchemy, which arises each spring in my heart:

Confront the dark parts of yourself, and work to banish them with illumination and forgiveness. Your willingness to wrestle with your demons will cause your angels to sing.’ August Wilson

As an angel, Michael seems to have an ethereal approach to his battle with a snarky demon, but for most of us, it’s not so easy.   This battle is reflected in the astrology chart for the full Moon with Saturn and Pluto in friendly relations with both Moon and Sun.  They demand our attention, perhaps to say:  ‘you are making to much of your demons.’

Full Moon in Scorpio 2019

All this reflected in the Sabian Symbol for the degree of the Moon:   The King of the fairies approaching his domain. …..beyond both outer nature and the realm of the proud ego, a spiritual world exists to which the intuitive consciousness of man can pay allegiance.  This is the deep work of Scorpio.   And this is the Desire body which all Western mystery traditions hope to develop in us.  It is our ability to sense spiritual messages in the material body, which is part of this tradition.   Scorpio is often associated with sexuality because in moments of intense love making we understand, through the body’s pleasure,  that our spirit has no boundaries.

Taurus Sun and season is talking of Desire for something, someone outside of ourselves. Love in the spring season (Taurus); when everything is about love, is ruled by the Lady of Love herself, Venus.  At this moment Venus is also in the sign of Taurus, and she is in the company of that crazy planet, Uranus, who says there are always new ways to be yourself.  Venus and Taurus make a nice aspect to Mars, Scorpio’s ruler.  So it seems that the desire of Taurus and the desire of Scorpio speak to each other at this moment of full expression!

Mercury, the magician, the healer, the speaker is whispering in the ear of the Taurus Sun on Saturday evening.   The full Moon opens us to greater depths of communication.  Scorpio Moon asks us to explore what moonlight has to offer in familiar places.  Instead of holding tight to the days of spring unfolding, I will try to open my hand to the message of wider light and meaning…

Yesterday  I watched as Venus and the last sliver of the Moon had a conversation in the dawn sky.  Many days I get up early to go to a yoga class, and when the Moon is almost finished with her journey, she rises with me.  If Venus is in her morning phase, we all three rise together.   I took a picture from my phone to record the beauty of their dawn rendezvous, but all you can see is the intense relationship between these two gems.

The New Moon on Saturday will feature an eclipse of the Sun visible in Asia.   The big excitement for most of us will come at the full Moon, when there is a total lunar eclipse, the Moon huge in perigee, a ‘blood Moon!’  visible to North and South America, Europe, Middle East, most of Africa, and part of Asia.

New Moon in Capricorn

The morning I watched the little Moon and sparkling Venus I received  a clear message about the new Moon: the word was ‘sensuality’.  I could feel that sensuality in the yoga class.  I felt my body become integrated with a larger body, the human body!   All this makes sense with the huge amount of Capricorn stacked up in this chart.   Form, structure, organization, materialization, embodiment, are all characteristics of Capricorn.  The sign is usually associated with government or business, and this new Moon takes place as a new Congress is sworn in, after a complete breakdown of government function.  The ‘body politic’ needs some embodiment!

leaves in ice          photo: Robert Fuhro

Maybe the ice of the winter season after the Solstice is part of that Capricorn structure.  Water stilled in the form of ice is reflected at this new Moon moment in the position and degree of Neptune, King of the Waters, in the Water sign of Pisces.   Does Neptune work to wash away the Capricorn organization?  Or does Capricorn freeze up the watery nature of Neptune in Pisces.  This next week should be interesting!!

This much Capricorn, especially with Saturn, ruler of Capricorn in the crowd of planets can create a sense of stillness,  felt as depression.  Daylight is short.   Yet  there is also a message of quiet possibility.    This is a time  to begin to manifest whatever wishes, dreams, visions  you have held for many years or lifetimes.   Do some magic to focus on the possibility of creation!  Put a message into a bottle and send it out into Neptune’s deep waters, beyond the ice jam!

Saturn is the planet of bones, Capricorn is in charge of the joints of our body,  structure which holds us together.  This new Moon gathering of Capricorn planets includes Sun, Moon, Mercury, Pluto and the South Node, the eclipse point in the chart, what was learned and used but is the tail end of experience, all that which is used up, ready to be left behind!

Sometimes

Sometimes
if you move carefully
through the forest

breathing
like the ones
in the old stories

who could cross
a shimmering bed of dry leaves
without a sound,

you come
to a place
whose only task

is to trouble you
with tiny
but frightening requests

conceived out of nowhere
but in this place
beginning to lead everywhere.

Requests to stop what
you are doing right now,
and

to stop what you
are becoming
while you do it,

questions
that can make
or unmake
a life,

questions
that have patiently
waited for you,

questions
that have no right
to go away.

The full Moon celebrates the Winter Solstice on Saturday, December 22.  Both Luminaries, Sun and Moon are at 0 degree  of Capricorn and Cancer, constellations which mark the entry into winter and summer.   This is a moment when we can hear the Music of the Spheres.  It is a moment of absolute stillness, a chance to begin anew in a place of cosmic attunement!

The approach to the dark winter solstice always feels dangerous and death ridden.  But there is an opportunity for healing at this moment.  The position of Mars and Chiron as they relate to the Sun and Moon speaks of healing, finding a doctor within.    What can be done to lighten the mood?  Mars says: party like crazy, go to concerts, sing and feast!  Chiron recommends embracing all the colors of your crystal, knowing how important is your ray of light in this spectrum.   Leave nothing of yourself behind in the cold.

There’s a strong suggestion of surprise in this chart as Uranus, the Wild One shakes Sun and Moon with fiery energy.  The Sabian Symbol for the position of Uranus is Attunement to cosmic order.  ‘Listen to Your Inner Voice!’ he says from his perch in Aries.    Look into the crystal, a reminder of all the frequencies of colors which must go into a ray of pure white light. To hear the Inner Voice, we have to trust our own light, our own music!

Full Moon in cancer 2018

Venus and Neptune are in a harmonious trine of Water signs.  They play the background music for this Sun Moon dance.  What will the entry of the Moon into Cancer (more Water),  mean for the  planets of love?   Perhaps Venus and Neptune  will tune us to the cosmic order.  Cosmic music, like the light of the crystal, requires each vibration of sound.

A musical theme seems right for a full Moon at the season when we sing or hear music the most.   The Sabian Symbol for Uranus continues with the theme of ‘cosmic attunement.’  ‘If you are ready to enter into new possibilities of action, you must also learn the harmonic principles in operation! The Music of the Spheres.’    All we are asked to do is to stop a moment to feel the Sun’s journey and the full Moon’s sweet voice!

The celebration of the journey of the Sun and Moon, gives depth and comfort to every person, no matter who they are, where they live.  Each voice in praise of the Earth and Sky are more powerful than all the forces of destruction and despair!   The bird of this season is the Wren, smallest of all, with the sweetest note!   The old song says: ‘Who sees the Wren sees God.’  Our song is never too small to move hearts and to brighten the dark season.

An Electrical Storm‘ is the Sabian Symbol for the degree of the full Moon in Taurus.  And, to make sure we  feel this electrical energy, the planet Uranus,  full of the shock value of lightning, sits within one degree of the Moon.   Yet, here’s the strange part: the Sabian Symbol for Uranus is:  ‘A Clear Mountain Stream.’   It seems as if the Moon and Uranus have swapped roles! Our mother the Moon wants to shake us up, the change maker, Uranus wants us to remember our source!

stream runs through it copy                                             photo: Bruce Lhuillier

The Moon loves to be in the sign of Taurus.  Taurus is an Earth sign, where the Moon showers her love  upon this planet which she watches over.  Perhaps she remembers when the Earth was in the sign of Taurus, about 5000 years ago, a time of deep reverence for the feminine, reflected in the art of the time, and stored somewhere in our modern consciousness.

Lady of the Lake BL copy                                             rock sculpture and photo: Bruce Lhuillier

The two Sabian Symbols tell us an interesting story.  ‘A Clear Mountain Stream‘ is about  ‘our pure, uncontaminated source.’  When we can feel that source in ourself, we rejoice in our deepest, most spontaneous and unnamed and untamed nature.  Potential to accomplish whatever our ‘work’ may be is available.   This is the gift of Uranus to this full Moon.  And the full Moon reflects the electrical energy held in Uranus, ‘An Electrical Storm’!   Our deepest and purest  manifestation is electrified by this moment on Wednesday.  Here’s a way to connect and electrify our true nature, as a species and as individuals.

spirit bust in crypt at MA BL copy                           photo: Bruce Lhuillier

And the degree of the Sun, adds a nostalgic note to this full Moon.  His Sabian Symbol: ‘A Delicate Bottle of Perfume Lies Broken, Releasing its Fragrance.’  This romantic touch may be from the proximity of Venus to the Sun.   The two of them make a strange balance to the Moon/Uranus combination of electrified soul source!  Sense of smell and taste, music, touch, all have a way of recalling a memory from the past, and stirring deep feelings of pain or nostalgia.  Like the broken bottle, we open and release poignant feelings only when we are least expecting them.  At death or at extreme moments of joy and pain, our soul, like the fragrance from the broken perfume bottle is released from its ‘delicate bottle.’

Halibut Point-after the hurricane      photo: Robert Fuhro

And that companion to the Sun, Venus, in the sign of Scorpio, presents a very contrary image to the delicate symbol of a broken perfume bottle, releasing  fragrance.   Instead Venus is symbolized as: ‘A Massive Rocky Shore Resists the Pounding of the Sea‘. There is a theme of surrender and resistance to change in these two symbols.  It feel as if we are challenged by the Moon and Uranus to feel and embrace the energy of electrical change of this time, and yet we struggle with the pain and resistance we feel to change.

gatehouse key                                            photo: Sarah Fuhro

To deepen the powerful thrust of this time Sun and Moon are locked in a perfect square to the Lunar Nodes, which hold the key to where we have been and where we need to travel.   The North Node in Leo, urges us on to self expression, courage, and battle with the ego.  Aquarius reminds us we are part of a community, and have a responsibility to create a livable future.

full Moon in Taurus 2018

Last night I watched a film about the destruction of the land for two indigenous people, in Papua New Guinea and northern Canada.  I came away deeply depressed by the enormous forces of destruction which support my comfortable life style, fills my gas tank and powers my cell phone.    What is my power to resist the destruction of the natural world, while embracing the change, which is: ‘the cosmic power able to transform all the implications of natural existence.’   This seems to be the conundrum, and the message of the full Moon in Taurus, which takes place Wednesday, October 24, at 12:45 EDT

The Sabian Symbols are verbal images for each degree of the zodiac.  They were created by a psychic, Laura Wheeler and an astrologer and philosopher, Marc Edmund Jones.  The astrologer and composer, Dane Rudhyar edited and polished them in his book: The Astrology of Personality.  They give me visual clues to the mysteries held in astrological charts.

light show with face

Dark planet of the dark Lord,

where all is tightly bound,

a small pond reflects darkness.

But we flock there, to rest,

to meet Him, Pluto, the key,

the king of gold and oil.

The place of his kingdom

is not a cave, nor a dungeon,

but a garden of dark vines.

And when we leave,

we are refreshed, as the Moon

after her dark confinement.

I saw you there at the station.

That was the first time.

As your train pulled away,

your eyes filled with tears.

And, there was no doubt,

we could never walk

along the same sweet path.

Now in the fire of summer,

I have lost the thread,

there is no path out,

I only go deeper and darker.

My train and yours have

have devoured the tracks.

you have to live,

Demon Wars

Many battles won or lost,

take place in moonlight,

when the big hoop

is caught in a tree top.

So tonight was my battle,

These battles end in draw,
