It looks as if the Sun in this chart is lost in a dream with Neptune (the Dreamer) and Ceres the Earth Mother. The Moon will have to hold her own in practical, earthy, Virgo. But this is not necessarily about contradiction, even though the luminaries are in that full Moon position of opposition. The agitation we feel at the time of the full Moon is the excitement of contradiction, which is attempting wholeness.

Pisces Sun might ‘envision’ (Neptune), a dream of the Earth Mother (Ceres) honored and acknowledged. The Pisces characteristics of victimization and martyrdom dissolve in the full Moon’s light, much as The Hermit, The Hermitwho corresponds to Virgo in the Tarot deck, shines his light on weary travelers as they make their way to the place he holds for them. For humanity to survive on the planet, we need both the dream of Pisces/Neptune/Ceres, and the practical work of Virgo.

Pisces is the dissolver of old forms, in preparation for the new beginning which will take place in Aries at the spring equinox.

We are not separate from this preparation. Both hemispheres of the earth are ‘greening up.’   The process of change can be felt in our bodies and spirits. There is so much work to do before we start the building process of spring.

The Pisces-Virgo axis is further demonstrated at this time with the Lunar nodes and Jupiter and Chiron in opposition.   The Lunar nodes mark the location of the eclipse cycle.   Jupiter and Chiron speak of the wound and the healing we all experience. Pisces is represented in the Tarot deck with The Moon card.

We see the armored creature who is about to begin a long journey of evolution. He is soft Moon cardon the inside, and encased in armor on the outside. She is about to leave the watery womb to travel a dry road through what looks like treachourous territory. He will have to deal with the overly domesticated dog self and his wild and untamed interior wolf.   She must travel past the ever seeing eyes represented by the towers. Will she be able to withstand the opnions of society, as she must, to continue onwards until she reaches the mountain in the distant future, when she will meet The Hermit, and recognize herself?

Watching all this is the mysterious image of a full and crescent Moon who sheds Yods upon the path, which our little creature is about to travel.   The Yods represent the participation of spirit upon all of this. They are the Hebrew letter which is first in the spelling of G-d’s name. For those of us who live in areas of the globe which have highly volatile seasons, this image is reflected in the constant transformation of the natural world around us.

pond at Mainstone

I took this picture of a small pond near my house in January. It shows, the interlacing of open water, snow, ice, a bit of green grass, the dead leaves and branches of the year before. They are all folded in together just as our astrology charts reveal the diverse impulses and talents which energize our lives.

Full Moon in Virgo 2016

I think the squeeze of the Uranus Pluto square has clues for the meaning of this tumultuous time. Within the arms of this womb, we feel the pressure of birth pangs.   Uranus demands swift and radical change; Pluto requires depth and honesty.   Each of us dances to this pressure in our unique way, but it cannot be ignored.   Fear and courage, love and anxiety mark our journey.

This morning I found a favorite poem posted on a friend’s blog http://lindayaelschiller.com/blog.  I was reunited with the beautiful imagery of Machado at the perfect full Moon moment. It was a gift to me, which I would like to share with you! It is about dreaming (Pisces) and formation of imagery (Virgo).   Hope you like it as well!

Last Night As I Was Sleeping

By Antonio Machado (translated by Robert Bly)

Last night as I was sleeping,

I dreamt—marvelous error!—

that a spring was breaking

out in my heart.

I said: Along which secret aqueduct,

Oh water, are you coming to me,

water of a new life

that I have never drunk?

Last night as I was sleeping,

I dreamt—marvelous error!—

that I had a beehive

here inside my heart.

And the golden bees

were making white combs

and sweet honey

from my old failures.

Last night as I was sleeping,

I dreamt—marvelous error!—

that a fiery sun was giving

light inside my heart.

It was fiery because I felt

warmth as from a hearth,

and sun because it gave light

and brought tears to my eyes.

Last night as I slept,

I dreamt—marvelous error!—

that it was God I had

here inside my heart.

A New Moon Eclipses the Sun

Grape-sWe enter eclipse season with a tender new Moon in Muin (the Vine) on September 13. There will be a partial eclipse of the Sun visible only in the far reaches of the Southern Hemisphere. To understand that the Moon, invisible to us when she is ‘new’ blocks our view of the Sun during a solar eclipse is stunning, and a clue to our own limits and possibilities of perception.partial eclipse of the Sun                                                                  According to the Sabian Symbol for the degree of the new Moon and Sun meeting, this new Moon will be about ‘group integration.’ Since the conjunction takes place opposite Chiron the ‘wounded healer.’ we know this is a special moment to consider what powers we have to heal those around us and to contemplate what heals our wounds.

While Virgo is often described as a sign that likes time alone, the degree of the new Moon reminds us that Virgo is also a tribal treasure, involved in ‘group integration.’ The Virgo talent for ‘discrimination,’ can be traced

to her season, which precedes the moment of the fall equinox. Imagine those who have the task to search the community’s grain at harvest season. Virgo must choose which seeds will be made into bread for the long winter, and which will be kept aside for the   next spring’s planting. These were the early plant geneticists. The picture below, is of the group activity of harvest, and the circle of threshing which releases the seed from the shell.harvest threshing

Nutrition and natural healing are associated with Virgo energy, and the house that Virgo rules.   Like the digestive system of the body, Virgo takes in nourishment, determines where and how each molecule will be distributed. But the intestinal track, which Virgo rules is also a highly ‘wired’ network of nerves.   We receive information from our gut, which warns about unhealthy food and dangerous situations.

New Moon in Muin 2015The Virgo Pisces axis illustrated in this chart is one of deep compassionate concern and focus upon the issue of health. The planet Uranus is also involved in the mix. He brings the electric excitement of his own nature and the fiery sign of Aries where he is located. He adds a touch of novel investigation into the issue of health and nutrition. Aside from what you have been told, what is your relationship to ingestion and digestion, both in the realm of food, and the realm of thought and feeling?

Mercury is the planet which lies opposite Uranus, and this is significant, especially since Uranus is considered the ‘higher octave’ of Mercury, and Mercury ‘rules’ Virgo. Mercury will go retrograde on September 17, allowing greater access to our non-rational brain, and a reminder to be aware of each moment and how we are living that moment.

Mercury is in the sign of Libra, the next sign in the zodiac after Virgo, and the symbol of the scales continues the theme of the harvest, with gathering, threshing, differentiating the grain and then weighing the harvest in the scales of Libra, what has been gained or lost.

Uranus is associated with society’s ever evolving thought process. We have seen a revolution in a very short time around the issue of gay marriage and gay rights. These transformative movements are part of the ‘work’ of Uranus.   First it must be the few brave individuals who speak out….the Prometheus aspect of Uranus.   These people face of the wrath of the old forms of societal organization and beliefs.   But then the ‘unthinkable’ acceptance of new ways of life become the norm.

Virgo and Pisces, the opposition between Sun/Moon and Chiron speak of boundaries. Virgo is careful of boundaries. Pisces would dissove them. Both processes are important in our lives.    Europe at this moment is going throrefuge childrenugh a crisis of boundaries. It seems inevitable that Europe will include a larger and larger mixture of people from around the world. The refugees knocking at European doors are from countries colonized in the last century or two. The photogragh of a small child dead in the waters that separate one group of people from another may have brought the European nations to their senses. And what photo of a Honduran or Mexican child will finally open the hearts of America?

This is the new Moon of Rosh Hoshannah, which begins at sunset on September 13. The New Year is marked with the blowing of the ram’s 240px-Liten_askenasisk_sjofar_5380horn, the shofar. Perhaps Uranus in Aries, the sign of the ram, will have a powerful message for us, as individuals and as humanity, bringing us one step closer to the ‘group integration’ mentioned in the Sabian Symbol for the degree of the new Moon.

Rabbit
A rabbit is leaping about in me,
now in my heart, now in my throat.
This rabbit is the moon rabbit,
and she is covered in blue, white fur.
The rabbit tells me summer
is finished and harvest is next.
The sound of her little forest feet
is like the beating of my heart.
Sojourner rabbit,
moves like the wild grape vine
travels in a zig zag rythm.
So soon, the dusty grape
takes precedence over the berry,
Meanwhile the troubled salmon
bumps his anxious nose
along the narrow drying stream
near the bunny’s retreat
and remembers the deep pool
bowed over by hazel nuts,
which has called out his spiral return.
