This Solar Eclipse has turned our heads in America. We will look up and catch sight of Sun and Moon in an intimate moment of visual contact. Our attention will shift away from domestic drama to celestial dance. How wondrous is it, that our Moon, the Earth and Sun are so perfectly sized, so perfectly placed in the cosmos, to create these yearly events in the sky, solar and lunar eclipse! Our Moon casts her shadow on the Sun, and from where we watch, the stars come out in mid-day! We can hope to see Jupiter, Venus and Mars during the darkest period.

Each new Moon is about the end, and the beginning. The Moon has made her journey through all the constellations of the zodiac, and caught up with the Sun to start the journey again. This is the second new Moon in Leo, as if to emphasize this sign or perhaps the Sun himself, because Leo is the place the Sun shines most brightly! This second round of new Moon in Leo, Sun is eclipsed, darkened, shut down!   What does it mean for all of us here on this beautiful planet? Can we keep our balance in a way that feels impossible to imagine?

The Sabian Symbol for the degree of the eclipse speaks of great potential for transformation:   ‘A Mermaid emerges from the Ocean Waves ready for rebirth in human form. The stage at which an intense feeling-intuition rising from the unconscious is about to take form as a conscious thought.’   It is what we ‘know’ is impossible which begs for existence. Over the past week I have learned to balance rocks in positions, which defy gravity. As I draw away my hand, and the rock stays perched, I understand how I limit my thoughts, how I neglect the impossible.    ‘Yearning for conscious form and solidity’ is the meaning of this eclipse.  It will require our deep meditative attention to visualize what does not exist.

If you have noticed a lot of explosive energy over the last few weeks, it might be the planetary  triangle in the Fire element as it rolls through the skies. Sun and Moon are in trine to Uranus in fiery Aries. Uranus is an electrical charge all by himself. His Sabian Symbol in the eclipse drama is ‘The Music of the Spheres!’ Can you hear it? Will it embed itself in you on Monday as you open yourself to the cosmic energy of the new Moon? Saturn is the third point in the triangle, and he is in perfect alliance with Dark Moon Lilith, the angry first wife of Adam, undomesticated female energy.

Pholus shares the third point in this fiery triangle. He is a centaur connected to the ancestral realms and generational healing. This seems particularly poignant as our nation begins to look at the unrelenting, unchecked violent racism, which exists in the United States. Not just during four hundred years of bitter slavery, but in the terrorism, which continues to the present moment for people of color. The Sabian Symbol for the location of Pholus is another image of artistic vision and form: ‘A sculptor at his work.’ But what are we sculpting?

This solar eclipse takes place one degree from the Ascendant of the President of the United States….and two degrees from my Ascendant! The Ascendant is the most sensitive point in a chart. It is the gate we enter when we take on a physical form at birth.   It will take place someplace in your chart as well, and bring attention to any planet it touches. The location in a particular zone of your chart, even it there are no planets nearby will give special emphasis to this area of your life over the next several months.   The effects of an eclipse take several months to materialize. It may be when Saturn reaches the eclipse degree (28° Sagittarius) this December! That will ‘perfect’ the Fire triangle created during Monday’s eclipse.

The stars and planets are reflected here on earth.  This branch of Elderberry looks like  a constellation.  Our ancestors lived under the stars and were constantly aware of them.  We are awed when we occasionally get a glimpse of a star filled sky if we can get away from night light.  This eclipse, which will be visible across the United States could be an opportunity to see the whole picture instead of a fragment.  We share the sky with everyone, with plants and animals and the stones and earth around us.  Let’s drink  in this eclipse not just as a marvel but as a message.   Will the wonder of the eclipse remain within us, as we attempt to materialize the impossible?

A partial lunar eclipse on August 7th won’t be visible in the United States, yet it carries the energy of Sun and Mars in Leo. This explodes the power of the element of Fire and the Life Force. The combination, which has been in effect for the last few weeks, brings a huge surge of energy.   But like all energy, it requires consciousness, a channel for the drive towards action, which it triggers.

Give this eclipse a moment of your time and awareness. It takes place at 2:11 pm EDT on Monday, August 7, daylight hours here in North America. But the view of the full Moon has already begun to light up the night sky. As with each full Moon, the Lunar Lady comes out of the bright orb of the Sun and shines in her own light. This can represent for us, the lunar aspect of ourselves: the side, which knows without words, the intuitive, visionary and dreamtime portion of our soul.

‘The storm over, all Nature rejoices in brilliant sunshine. The surge of life and love after a major crisis. The joy and power of new beginnings.’

This is the verbal image of the Sun’s degree, the  Sabian Symbol for his position at the time of the eclipse. If times have been difficult over the last year, this is a moment of reconfiguration.   The Sun in Leo offers you a new outlook, or even a breakthrough on the material plane at this Lunar eclipse.

Leo, the Sun’s sign is the joy and expression of the self.   Aquarius, the Moon’s sign is about community, about visions of the future.   Here is the tension for this combination….how does the individual thrive amidst the needs and expectations of the larger group?   How do we find balance between responsibility towards organization and responsibility to hear and follow free flowing inspiration? Long ago, at this time of year, I had a dream in which I was carrying water in a pail hooked on a yoke across my shoulders. But the yoke was impossible to carry this way, because it needed another pail for balance.   When I went back and filled a second pail with water, I could now carry it up the hill. I took the dream to be about Aquarius, the Water Bearer. Aquarius full Moon needs the joyous balance of Leo, the Sun.

This Lunar eclipse chart reflects a very old story in the rivalry between Jupiter (Zeus) and Pluto (Hades). The two planets make an exact 90° angle to one another called a ‘square.’ Jupiter rules Mt. Olympus. He is the king of the gods, the ruler above ground, but his brother, Pluto, governs the Underworld. Hades is full of resentment. Zeus is oblivious. Zeus had a gorgeous wife and innumerable sexual conquests.   Hades ruled alone, until the entry of Persephone in his subterranean kingdom. His jaws open wide for mortal flesh.

Jupiter had to deal with the limitations imposed by Pluto. Mortality and immortality play back and forth between these two mighty brothers.   Life on earth cannot continue without Death. But neither life nor death is satisfied with this arrangement.   Somehow this moment in time is a reminder of that conflict and all the power it holds over us. This is the season of Lughnasadh or Lammas, of harvest, which means death for the grain, but life for animals and humans. It’s a strange time of year. Sun and heat throb around us, yet the diminishing daylight and the harvest are reminders of approaching fall and winter.

And then there is Neptune who rules another kingdom, that of the Sea.   With Pluto he creates a Yod in this chart, a powerful finger pointing at the Sun. ‘Take it seriously, Leo,’ Pluto and Neptune say. ‘You are the playful, fun-loving sign of the zodiac, but we have deep secrets and deep treasures, only accessed by those who stop to listen.  Only the compassionate ones who hold life tenderly in their hands make it through this perilous time.

Take a moment to hear and feel the full Moon in this season of eclipse. The August insects sing praises to our Lady Luna as she rises in the sky during the next few nights. Feel her reflection in your throat.

‘Sound the ram’s horn at the time of the new Moon and Full Moon!’      Psalm 81

A new Moon begins a new cycle. We all get a fresh start. And, because this new Moon occurs at the very first degree of Leo, it is also the beginning of a new astrological sign on the Sun’s yearly journey. The next new Moon will also be in Leo. It’s the very large Solar eclipse, visible all over North America.   Enjoy the mysteries and pleasures of this new Moon, which has a lot of fire. Whoever your ancestors, they celebrated the Moon and the stars. They stood in a circle around a fire and felt the loving arms of the sky above them.

Fire is the first element in the Western occult tradition. It is associated with ‘desire, ‘ with intuition with the direction South and with the Suit of Wands in the Tarot deck.   The occult tradition lists three kinds of fire: There is the ‘electric’ fire of Aries and Mars. Leo is the Solar fire of the Sun. And then there is the fire of friction. The is the fire of social connection, the fire of the ancestors around the communal fire. This is the social friction of Sagittarius. All three play a prominent role in this new Moon moment.

New Moon in Leo 2017

The chart of the New Moon on July 23 features lots of heat from Aries, the head, Leo, the heart, and Sagittarius, the hips and sacrum. A beautiful triangle of fire! The Symbol for Fire is an upright triangle. The fire signs, Aries, Leo and Sagittarius in this chart form a ‘Grand Trine.’ All three must be integrated to provide wisdom and a key to the mystery of who we are and why we are here. As we trudge up the hill toward light, we often forget the mysterious darkness and conflagration which was our source.  The vision upwards BL         photo: Bruce Lhuillier

Even the Sabian Symbol for this new Moon features heat!   ‘Blood rushes to a man’s head as his vital energies are mobilized under the spur of ambition.   Conflagration. ‘ The fire of the heart (Leo) rushes to the head (Aries), expressed in the fire of Sagittarian passions. Give this new Moon your attention on Sunday.   What is your vision of the future? Take note of your personal vision and your vision for human existence on the planet as it heats up. The notion of endless growth doesn’t seem wise. Ambition can be inspiration or cold fire.

spirit bust in crypt at MA BL                          photo: Bruce Lhuillier

A Fire trine spins and creates new life forms. But at what price? Something is always forfeited with each twist of the road. As the nomadic life is lost, the connection to the earth spirits is also lost. We can see the pain of people all over the world only recently ripped from their traditional life. They were keenly aware of their relationship to the earth, as were our ancestors. Now we must relearn that relationship. As we follow the Moon’s cycle we take a step towards the reconnection. Now as we feel the damage to our earth, we turn back to the nerve, blood and bone connection we once had as children of the earth.

It’s Almost Time   Sarah Fuhro

It’s almost time,

almost time for the change in light,

almost time for the poor and weak to reach out

trembling hands to each other and to grasp.

It’s almost time for the kind to smile

and be seen

in all their glory,

for the shift in power.

It’s almost time for the silenced to sing

and for the earth to receive the sweet rain

of justice as it falls on ploughed fields.

It’s almost time to be brave

and to go the next step without knowing how.

It’s almost time for the knowledge of the Moon

to rise in the dark sky and let us know

there is more than one way

to see the road ahead.

This is a new Moon chart crowded with planets and other cosmic objects located at the end and the beginning of the zodiac. It feels as if we are all on a stellar journey of deep significance. We must end one cycle before we begin anew. But astrology charts, just like life are never that neat.

Lots and lots of planets in Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac are crowded together next to a multitude at the very beginning of the Zodiac (Aries). Like all adjoining signs, Pisces and Aries are quite unlike. The signs next to each other are teachers to one another. Pisces teaches Water, teaches universal love, teaches martyrdom and the erasure of personal identity. Aries teaches Fire, teaches the thrusting energy of the individual, and the anger of the warrior. But like a family, like a community, like our own inner complexity, every chart contains contradictions, which must be embraced, in order to be whole.

About this time, Neptune swallows Sun and Moon. The Moon is already invisible because of her proximity to the Sun. An annular eclipse of the Sun visible in the Southern Hemisphere, will darken the Sun except for a gold ring! Neptune opens our spiritual senses, we have to feel what is happening in the sky.

mesopotamian-disk.                        Photo: Bruce Lhuillier

Neptune is the modern ruler of Pisces. He is the opportunity to see beyond the material world, and to feel the oceanic tides in our system. Neptune’s energy blurs sharp focus in waking hours, and makes dreams vivid at night.

strange-old-town                                                               Photo: Bruce Lhuillier

The Sabian Symbol for the degree of this new Moon is ‘A jockey spurs his horse, intent on out distancing his rivals. Self quickening.’ This is an image of competitive energy with a focus on recognition. How do we get noticed, and what is the impulse to be noticed? And what is the recognition allowed a Pisces Sun and Moon, in eclipse and swallowed by Neptune?

During the winter so much is underground, hidden, presumed dead. All that was in hibernation wakes to a fiery call. The compression of most of the planets into these two signs is like a spring, which has been pushed down, but is now ready to burst into freedom. The watery Pisces energy is about to combine with the volatile combination of Mars, Uranus and Eris in Aries. This year we had no somnolent winter. The political theatre in America and elsewhere reflects the Aries direction of this new Moon in Pisces chart.

Uranus and Mars are in the service of the goddess Eris. Eris, is the scorned and rejected woman; she who is not invited to the party. It was Eris who concocted the test of the Golden Apple, and thus began the Trojan War. Eris is the sister of Mars-Ares. She has been slowly moving through the sign of Aries since 1927. Now she is aligned in fiery Aries with the always disruptive, Uranus and her brother, Mars the god of War. What to do with this powerful trio if we know their potential for damage?

judgment_of_paris_rubens_1638

                                                                  The Judgement of Paris   Rubens

The last time Uranus and Eris met in Aries, was between 1426-1517, a time of upheaval and war all over Europe, and the period of violent ‘discovery’ of North and South America by Europeans.   The Hundred Years War took place as did the ‘War of the Roses.’ Joan of Arc might be the significant symbol for Eris at this time. She took up arms against the English invasion, yet was burned as a witch, and then sanctified as a saint.

Anything crystalized during the Middle Ages was thrown open by Uranus and Eris in devastating spasms of change, and the development of new cultural forms. This was a period of religious and spiritual experimentation and yet it was also the time of great religious repression, a flowering of new sects and mystical vision, and the Inquisition.

Now it is our turn to experience the combination of anger and creativity, spirituality and destruction held in this chart.

the-tower

The Second Coming     W.B. Yeats

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Perhaps it will be Jupiter who holds the key to a hopeful outcome. Jupiter is in the sign of balance, Libra. He is the traditional ‘ruler’ of Pisces, the sign of the new Moon and Sun. His Sabian Symbol at 22°Libra is ‘Chanticleer’s voice heralds sunrise. A creative and joyous response to life processes.’

For all who fear ‘The blood-dimmed tide’ take heart with Jupiter’s position in the chart, opposite Uranus, Eris and Mars. Their energy and creativity and courage are available when we accept our part in the drama of these times into which we were born. We might remember the courage of Jeanne d’Arc: ‘I am not afraid. I was born to do this.’

‘Overcoming Crises with Compassion’

la-me-ln-eclipse-observatory-20150927Do you remember that amazing full lunar eclipse, last September 27th? Were you able to watch it that bright evening?   We are about to have its mirror image, in penumbral form, on Wednesday, March 23rd.   If you live on the East coast of North America, you will see the beginning stages of the eclipse (5:30 am) before she sets as the Sun rises.

Both lunar eclipses are within a degree of each  other, but in opposite signs. We get to taste both ends of the spectrum, which ushers in the equinox season. If you combine the two charts, you get a new Moon experience in both Aries and Libra in the form of a full Moon! !

What do you remember from that period of your life? What needs to be repaired or revisited?

Both the fall and spring equinox partake of the balance between dark and light; both are a Full Moon in Libra 2016time of shift in season. Yet the spring season is full of the fire of the constellation of Aries, which the Sun entered last Saturday night, and we are ready to plant the seeds we harvested in September. Aries is a sign ruled by Mars, this particular Mars is in the more considered sign of Virgo, and is opposite Neptune. This is a far less fiery and self righteous Mars than the Sagittarian warrior of September.

Venus, the ruler of the Moon’s sign, Libra is in close connection to Neptune. Neptune is often called the higher, less personal aspect of Venus. This is universal love, the big picture, the mystic’s version of Venus.

feeding pigeonsMaybe this is where we should pay attention the identical Uranus in both charts. He is at 19° of Aries …in September he was in retrograde, and now moves in a straightforward direction. Here is the very beautiful Sabian Symbol for that potent degree, which unites these two charts at the point of individuation! ‘A young girl feeding birds in winter’ Keynote: ‘Crises in compassion.’

It feels as if we are at a crossroads, we either face our challenges with fear and loathing, or with the compassion we want for ourselves.  This seems to be a the theme of this year’s election campaign, and the latest events in the refugee crisis.

two of cups RW deckThe Sabian symbol for the Sun and Moon in their moment of perfect manifestation in opposition to one another continues the theme of love and healing. The Sun at 4° Aries presents the picture ‘Two lovers strolling on a secluded walk, Keynote: the progressive polarization of energies needed for fulfilling one’s life function.’ What does this mean?

Perhaps it can better be experienced than said: The Two of Cups in the Rider Waite deck might express it visually.   Each full Moon is a moment where energies in opposition come together, not to blend, but to fulfill the promise of the polarity.

The full Moon at 4° Libra is: ‘Around a campfire, a group of young people sit in spiTemperance Arthurianritual communion. KEYNOTE: The necessity to unite with kindred spirits as one enters unbeaten paths illumined by the still-insecure light of a dawning intuition of new values.‘  ‘The still insecure light’ might be the light of this lunar eclipse!

Jupiter and Saturn are in square to each other at this full Moon.   This has the quality of expansion and compression in conflict or discomfort, when you can’t catch your breath, you have the wind is knocked out of you, asthma?   Through the gentle recall of breath, meditation, patience we return to the center. Harmony is regained in more creative form, like an accordion? like singing?

A Dark Moon, A Dark Sun, a Full House in Pisces

A meeting has been called in the sign of Pisces. Gathered together are Mercury, the messenger; Neptune, the visionary; Ceres, the earth mother; the new Moon, queen of cycles; the Sun, a king in eclipse; Chiron, the wounded healer; and the South Node in Pisces, the location and timing of this solar/lunar event. The flavor of this stellar event is Pisces; the theme is compassion, intuition, mystical knowledge, music, and addiction to what can’t be seen, but can only be felt: A Love Supreme, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clC6cgoh1sU.

John Coltrane’s opus, A Love Supreme sets the tone for this total solar eclipse on Tuesday,John Coltrane March 8.   Coltrane’s ascendant, his soul gate is at 2° of Pisces. The Sabian Symbol for this degree is: Petrified tree trunks lie broken on desert sand. Keynote: The power to preserve records of their achievements which is inherent in fully matured culture. Indestructability. Music is both ephemeral and transcendent, like Pisces. Love, like music renews itself with each phrase, just as the Moon renews herself with each new Lunar cycle, and as we renew our connection to life with each new breath.

You won’t see the eclipse unless you are in Eastern Asia, but this combination of planets, a total solar eclipse, and the closeness of the Moon (Perigee) to earth means the lunar and Piscean energy will reverberate wherever you are. This is a moment to stop and take note, to listen to what must be healed within and without.

The Moon is always invisible at the time of the new Moon. All this has to be felt, and it can only be felt if you honor this celestial event with some form of consciousness. Meet the new lunar cycle in mystery and darkness if you can. You can become part of the stellium in Pisces with meditation, music-the music of your soul, and water. Float a candle in a bowl of water and listen to some music which reconnects you to a Love Supreme.

New Moon in Pisces 2016Jupiter is in perfect opposition to the new Moon and Sun. He’s one of two planets who rule Pisces and set the tone for this zodiac sign. He is the King of the gods on Olympus (Zeus), and expands our spirits through optimism and hope. Some say he supplanted the original monarch of the Greeks, Hera. Juno (Hera) in this chart is trine to Ceres (Demeter). Are we going to see a flood of female energy return to balance a long imbalance of male energy, as illustrated in the American election drama? Yet neither political party speaks to the cause of Demeter, our earth mother. This chart has the potential to bring attention to the environment, with yet another warning about the way we dishonor our home.

The outer planet ruler of Pisces is Neptune, who is part of the confab of planets, which are christian fishteaching us Pisces’ values. To feel another’s pain and pleasure is the genius of Pisces. The Age of Pisces began around the time of Christ and is now on the wane. At that time, two thousand years ago, a prophet symbolized by a fish, also the symbol of Pisces, spoke of the importance of love; ‘love thy neighbor, as thyself,’ a very difficult commandment. The sacrificial aspect of the fish became a theme in Christian doctrine. Yet often it was applied to the poor and to women, and left out the powerful and men.

To make this chart even more intense, Saturn and Uranus are in trine to one another and both contact the central players in the Pisces line up. Saturn would like to put the brakes on change;

Uranus can’t wait to set fire to the establishment. Expect more in the way of change and 6 The Loversthe resistance to change. Saturn makes a square to Jupiter, on one side and on the other to the Sun/Moon/Ceres drama. The outlet for all of this is in Gemini.   Gemini is communication, and a kind of nervous energy, which can make polarities seem like irreconcilable opposites instead of equal parts of a whole. In the Gemini card (The Lovers) from the Arthurian Legend Tarot we are offered another view of polarity. Gareth and Lyoness walk side by side in the forest. Their relationship does not consume or eliminate either one. As the seasons change so does their bond. The usual sense of this card as one of choice, takes on an evolutionary tone. We don’t have to eliminate contradictory elements in our nature. Astrology shows us the complexity of our nature held within a circle, a living picture of many parts which ‘feels’ change.

And one last player cannot be overlooked. Pluto trines Jupiter and makes a sextile to the luminaries. His influence as Death, as Lord of the Underworld is always triumphant, offering us the power of our own being. Don Juan in Journey to Ixtlan says to Carlos: ‘Death is the only wise advisor that we have. Whenever you feel, as you always do, that everything is going wrong and you’re about to be annihilated, turn to your death and ask if that is so. Your death will tell you that you’re wrong; that nothing really matters outside its touch. Your death will tell you, ‘I haven’t touched you yet’.’   Carlos Castaneda.

‘Ah, faeries, dancing under

the Moon,

A Druid land, a Druid tune!

While still I may, I write

for you

The love I lived, the dream I

knew.’ WB Yeats

September 27-28 there will  a total lunar eclipse, visible to most of North America and all of South America after sunset September 27. From eastern South America and Greenland, the greatest eclipse happens around midnight September 27-28. In Europe, Africa and the Middle East, the total eclipse takes place in the wee hours of the morning, after midnight and before sunrise.  Let’s hope we have clear skies for this wonderful opportunity to see the whole eclipse.

eclipseIt’s a ‘super Moon,’ which means the Moon is closest to the earth at this moment.  It’s the Harvest Moon in the Northern Hemisphere and the Spring Moon in the Southern Hemisphere. and the full Moon of Muin, the Vine!  It’s a ‘blood Moon’ as  the fourth and final eclipse of a lunar tetrad: four straight total eclipses of the Moon, spaced at six lunar months (full moons) apart.  This should bring out the dancer in all of us!

The Sabian Symbol for the full Moon in Aries on September 27th is dramatic and powerful…’A Triangle with Wings’!   ‘The capacity for self-transcending.’

How do we self-transcend,  as a planet, as a species,  as islands of individual consciousness?      I tried to find the perfect image for ‘A Triangle with Wings’  on the internet treasure box we all share, but it was thoth triangle with wingsquite disappointing. Suddenly, the 3 of Pentacles from the Thoth deck, came into my mind’s eye….seems perfect. ‘  What are we all building, as a planet, a species on the planet, and each of us in our buzzing heads? And how do we transcend3 of pentacles what we have created?
The Three of Pentacles in the Rider Waite deck, might give us a clue, for it is about the confluence of three parties to creativity, Inspiration, the Monk’s vision, Mental Design, the Architect’s plan, and Manual Skill, the Craftsman’s ability to put Inspiration, and Design into physical manifestation. The great cathedrals, pyramids, temples  of Europe, Asia, South America and Africa have transcended the people who built them.  What will we leave to the Earth’s children who come after us. What will transcend our times?

Full Moon in Muin 2015

The Chart for this very exciting Moon is built upon a ‘seesaw’ pattern with a Libra Sun, North Node and Mercury pitted again an Aries Moon, Uranus, South Node, Chiron and Neptune.   Aries/Libra opposition presents us with a basic polarity, which both energizes and confuses us….for we are always weighing the Aries urge toward the desires and needs of the self against the Libran  desires and needs of the other.   But like a child’s see saw, if either side abandons the process, the balance falls apart and we fall with a thump!  How do we fully integrate our outward drive (Aries) with our inward pull (Libra).  Under this Moon we get to experience both with a tremendous power, and perhaps feel it not as conflict, but as rhythm, like the beat of the heart or the breath in and out.

Interesting that the North Node, where we need to travel to evolve and grow has just entered Libra, a sign of balance and concern for others.   The South Node in Aries holds us back to say:  I can do it myself.   Aries is the sign of the warrior in our psyche, the drive to ‘go it alone’ while Libra represents our urge to partner, to share space with another.  As you reach out to the Moon on the night of September 27/28 feel the push and pull of these two drives, and allow them each the space they need to be expressive.

‘Thursday a small war broke out between those who worshipped the Mother Goddess in her aspect of the Moon, and those who worshipped her in her aspect of a huge fat woman with enormous buttocks.’   Terry Pratchett   Pyramids

The Full Moon of Muin (the Vine)  brings up some interesting ideas about vines.  Grape Vines are usually associated with this Moon, for it is the harvest time of the grape, and time to make wine.  But a sister Druid’s blog on vines caught my attention on the subject of Vines.  rampant vineshttps://druidgarden.wordpress.com/2015/09/.  I will quote a few ideas from her article: ‘The vines teach a similar lesson on a personal and interpersonal level. Sometimes we get into situations or have people in our lives that begin wrapping themselves around us—they have that uncontrolled vine energy. At first, it might not be a big deal, because they are just a small vine, but if they are there long enough, they can hurt us possibly beyond repair. Sometimes, it takes a third party to come in, cut the vine at its source, and help you recover. But this work is never easy—and it can be really draining and difficult…….Not all vines do what these vines poison ivydo–and that too, is an important lesson from nature. I’ll draw your attention to poison ivy vine, which is a plant that has evolved in this part of the world (read = native), and a plant which lives in perfect harmony with healthy trees that it climbs.  Poison ivy climbs up a tree in order to reach sunlight, not to choke and strangle, and the trees rarely suffer ill effects of having a vine. I’ve seen trees and poison ivy vines growing together for very long periods of time, the ivy sometimes blending into the leaves of the tree.  Now while most humans may not like poison ivy, the trees have a different relationship with it.  I see this vine as awareness medicine, a plant that tells us to pay attention and be mindful. Many times, I have found poison ivy to be a great defender of the forest–keeping the people out and protecting sacred spaces.  People leave the trees, or forests, alone when it is near.  And for that reason, I have always seen poison ivy as an ally.’

As a Flower Essence practitioner I have given Poison Ivy essence to those who need to put boundaries around their lives, and to reach their own heights in their own way.
