An Alchemical Full Moon in Sagittarius

Here  is a story I heard yesterday. It was used by Jung to explain the synchronicity of our inner and outer being.

There was a great drought in the Chinese village where Jung’s friend lived.  For months there had not been a drop of rain and the situation became catastrophic.

Finally the local people said, ‘We will fetch the rain-maker.’ And from another province an old man appeared. The only thing he asked for was a quiet little house somewhere, and there he locked himself in for three days.   On the fourth day the clouds gathered and there was a great rain-storm, an unusual amount, and the town was so full of rumours about the wonderful rain-maker that Wilhelm went to ask the man how he did it. ‘They call you the rain-maker; will you tell me how you made the rain?’

‘I did not make the rain; I am not responsible.’

‘But what have you done these three days?’

‘Oh, I can explain that. I come from another country where things are in order. Here they are out of order; they are not as they should be by the ordinance of heaven. Therefore the whole country is not in Tao, and I also am not in the natural order of things because I am in a disordered country.

So I had to wait three days until I was back in Tao and then naturally the rain came.’”

My soul, my planet.

The symbols for the degrees of this full Moon are earth shaking.   Is there indeed a planetary human mind, a human heart to listen?   Hear what was said of this moment when these images were divined (1920). The Moon, which will be full on Friday, carries this warning, a weary reality:

‘Pelicans menaced by the behavior and refuse of men seek safer areas for bringing up their young. The need for people concerned with the future to discover a new way of living and more wholesome surroundings.’ Pelicans symbolize the love of one generation for the next because in legend, they give of their own flesh and blood to feed their young. Human behavior has caused the extinction of innumerable species since these words were written, but now our own survival is on the line.

But everyone who reads this knows we are in a cataclysmic situation. What can be the balance to the horror we have created on our beautiful earth? How can we find our way out? The degree for the Sun in Gemini offers us a way beyond despair if we are willing to go deeper into consciousness. ‘A large Archaic volume. Contacting the all human planetary Mind underlying any cultural and personal mentality. Seed knowledge.’ If only there is some way in which we can access these ancient books of papyrus at the right moment!   How may be found through other clues in the chart for this full Moon. Each horoscope is a text for living in that moment of time. In this volume, perhaps it says: when we are in balance, the earth will be in balance as well!!

.Earth Mother, Demeter is at the same degree with the Sun. Is She the Planetary Mind? Does the medicine for a damaged planet lie in our mind’s connection to the earth? We have used our mind for the technology, which has so, ravaged our home, can we use the same mind to find the way to wholeness?  Gemini is about mental constructs, the mind.   The Moon offers the result of our constructs in the form of the animal and human refugees who scatter over the earth trying to find the Mother again.

This chart also offers us a Venus newly arrived in Taurus. This is her happiest location!   She is like a bee amongst the Roses. For this five petaled flower is her special signature. Venus has five stations in her cycle through the sky. Those who live beneath the sky know this and trace her journey as a pentacle, as a rose, as an apple blossom! The Sabian Symbol for her degree: ‘The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! Riches that come from linking the earthly and the celestial nature.’

Venus is in a perfect sextile with Mars, the life force of outward motion, just as she is the life force, which draws the world inward. Mars in the sign of Cancer has the Moon in him. He is sensitive, moody and tentative unless he is defending those he loves. Venus in Taurus and Mars in Cancer together create a recipe for feminine forcefulness and male passivity.

In a love affair these roles are always in flux, because there has to be transformational energy at work when two people are brave enough to mix their elements, and this ever changing formula is fired in the furnace of Alchemy.   So it is in the sky with the planets who act out our dramas for us, and reflect it back to us on earth!

A New Moon Eclipses the Sun

Grape-sWe enter eclipse season with a tender new Moon in Muin (the Vine) on September 13. There will be a partial eclipse of the Sun visible only in the far reaches of the Southern Hemisphere. To understand that the Moon, invisible to us when she is ‘new’ blocks our view of the Sun during a solar eclipse is stunning, and a clue to our own limits and possibilities of perception.partial eclipse of the Sun                                                                  According to the Sabian Symbol for the degree of the new Moon and Sun meeting, this new Moon will be about ‘group integration.’ Since the conjunction takes place opposite Chiron the ‘wounded healer.’ we know this is a special moment to consider what powers we have to heal those around us and to contemplate what heals our wounds.

While Virgo is often described as a sign that likes time alone, the degree of the new Moon reminds us that Virgo is also a tribal treasure, involved in ‘group integration.’ The Virgo talent for ‘discrimination,’ can be traced

Hands holding wheat

to her season, which precedes the moment of the fall equinox. Imagine those who have the task to search the community’s grain at harvest season. Virgo must choose which seeds will be made into bread for the long winter, and which will be kept aside for the   next spring’s planting. These were the early plant geneticists. The picture below, is of the group activity of harvest, and the circle of threshing which releases the seed from the shell.harvest threshing

Nutrition and natural healing are associated with Virgo energy, and the house that Virgo rules.   Like the digestive system of the body, Virgo takes in nourishment, determines where and how each molecule will be distributed. But the intestinal track, which Virgo rules is also a highly ‘wired’ network of nerves.   We receive information from our gut, which warns about unhealthy food and dangerous situations.

New Moon in Muin 2015The Virgo Pisces axis illustrated in this chart is one of deep compassionate concern and focus upon the issue of health. The planet Uranus is also involved in the mix. He brings the electric excitement of his own nature and the fiery sign of Aries where he is located. He adds a touch of novel investigation into the issue of health and nutrition. Aside from what you have been told, what is your relationship to ingestion and digestion, both in the realm of food, and the realm of thought and feeling?

Mercury is the planet which lies opposite Uranus, and this is significant, especially since Uranus is considered the ‘higher octave’ of Mercury, and Mercury ‘rules’ Virgo. Mercury will go retrograde on September 17, allowing greater access to our non-rational brain, and a reminder to be aware of each moment and how we are living that moment.

Mercury is in the sign of Libra, the next sign in the zodiac after Virgo, and the symbol of the scales continues the theme of the harvest, with gathering, threshing, differentiating the grain and then weighing the harvest in the scales of Libra, what has been gained or lost.

Uranus is associated with society’s ever evolving thought process. We have seen a revolution in a very short time around the issue of gay marriage and gay rights. These transformative movements are part of the ‘work’ of Uranus.   First it must be the few brave individuals who speak out….the Prometheus aspect of Uranus.   These people face of the wrath of the old forms of societal organization and beliefs.   But then the ‘unthinkable’ acceptance of new ways of life become the norm.

Virgo and Pisces, the opposition between Sun/Moon and Chiron speak of boundaries. Virgo is careful of boundaries. Pisces would dissove them. Both processes are important in our lives.    Europe at this moment is going throrefuge childrenugh a crisis of boundaries. It seems inevitable that Europe will include a larger and larger mixture of people from around the world. The refugees knocking at European doors are from countries colonized in the last century or two. The photogragh of a small child dead in the waters that separate one group of people from another may have brought the European nations to their senses. And what photo of a Honduran or Mexican child will finally open the hearts of America?

This is the new Moon of Rosh Hoshannah, which begins at sunset on September 13. The New Year is marked with the blowing of the ram’s 240px-Liten_askenasisk_sjofar_5380horn, the shofar. Perhaps Uranus in Aries, the sign of the ram, will have a powerful message for us, as individuals and as humanity, bringing us one step closer to the ‘group integration’ mentioned in the Sabian Symbol for the degree of the new Moon.

Rabbit
A rabbit is leaping about in me,
now in my heart, now in my throat.
This rabbit is the moon rabbit,
and she is covered in blue, white fur.
The rabbit tells me summer
is finished and harvest is next.
The sound of her little forest feet
is like the beating of my heart.
Sojourner rabbit,
moves like the wild grape vine
travels in a zig zag rythm.
So soon, the dusty grape
takes precedence over the berry,
Meanwhile the troubled salmon
bumps his anxious nose
along the narrow drying stream
near the bunny’s retreat
and remembers the deep pool
bowed over by hazel nuts,
which has called out his spiral return.
