looking At Burning Man - Version 2

Quirky

Let’s honor the quirky;
the Moon half eaten
by ragged cloud  mouths,
the child thrown from home,
by chaos and ashes.

Who would remember
Hansel and Gretel had
the step mother been kind,
or the witch less hungry.

And who is not Hansel,
not Gretel, cruel mother,
cowardly father, ravenous witch,
All singer of songs!

Aries is a signature of fire and warrior energy. When the Sun first enters Aries gate, we are in the vernal equinox, which represents the Life Force of spring in the Northern Hemisphere. The fiery, new beginning energy of Aries and can be seen in all the thrusting and greening of life around us, even when snow and cold temperatures say that spring is somewhere else.

New Moon in Aries 2018

The Sun is ‘exalted’ in the sign of Aries. The Fire and courage of Aries works well in an individual or on a cold stone wall, ready to melt what snow remains. Both Sun and Moon enter placid, earthy Taurus in a few days. Taurus is a sign where the Moon is in her ‘exaltation’ so both Luminaries are ready for a new start. This new Moon offers each of us the energy to commence, but perhaps this will be a new start on an old concept or a dream long postponed. The gate in this picture is now open. Something that was closed or forbidden by our inner guards is now a possible entry.

To celebrate this new Moon, Mercury goes direct a few hours before the Sun and Moon meet to create a new Lunar cycle in Aries. Mercury is also in Aries, he comes with a message about the esoteric side of this degree of Aries: ‘a triangle with wings.’ Interesting, the card from the Thoth Tarot deck, which I have used to illustrate this symbol is designated as ‘Mars in Capricorn’. This is the location of Mars in this chart.   The potential for creative breakthroughs in art or any other field seems very high right now. The fiery energy of Aries, and the solid Capricorn Mars, ruler of Aries speaks of manifestation. Manifestation of the most extraordinary dreams and visions is possible, because they will seem crucial!

Uranus guards the Sun and Moon in Aries on one side and Eris on the other. Uranus is all about freedom to be yourself, in whatever way speaks of your individuality. Uranus wants freedom to explore possibilities long ago taken off the table. His revolutionary spirit is aligned to the moment of his discovery. He was the first planet found through a telescope, a new form of technology, which Uranus also directs. His nature takes part in, or perhaps directs the moment of his discovery, which was during the French revolution when the old concepts of human identity were challenged and shaken.

Eris stands on the other side of the Luminaries. She is the chaotic interloper who demands recognition and acknowledgement. She is the injured aspect of the feminine. In return for notice, she offers a cornucopia of rewards.

These cosmic forces might work as gargoyles to this powerful moment. A gargoyle is both a spirit of protection and an outlet for water from the building. What is frightening is what keeps us from treasures we dare not claim.   If we have courage, the energy of Aries, we might enter new places of wonder, like the medieval cathedrals, filled with the creative expressions of artists and artisans. Here is the Three of Pentacles from the Waite-Smith deck, depicting the three elements who must be present to create something new, the visionary, the designer, and the manifester.

three of pentacles

Jupiter and Pluto, two brothers, two kings, two gods witness  and enforce the energy  of this moment of shift and change.   Jupiter ruled Mt. Olympus, Pluto was king of the Underworld. They are currently in a perfect trine, a relationship of pleasure. Choose something which seems impossible and discover unlimited resources, the helping hand of cosmic pattern.   The Sabian Symbol for the degree of Sun and Moon, ‘through imagination a lost opportunity is regained,’ promises we have only to ‘revise our attitude’ to discover the secret of creative imagination.

Northern cardinal -                          photo: Robert Fuhro

‘Me ‘n’ You, Me ‘n’ You, Me ‘n You,’ I hear Cardinals call as the full Moon in Libra shines on spring hopes!   This full Moon is always about the self and the other. The ‘self’ is the Sun in Aries. He’s surrounded by the healing presence of Chiron, the physician, and the communicator, Mercury. But the ‘other,’ the Moon in Libra floats alone on the opposite side of the chart, rising as the Sun sets.

Aries is the joy of existence, of new beginning, of sexual exuberance, and the spring energy that pours through every fiber of our body.

Libra is the balance, the knowledge of payment due, of concern for others, which tempers Aries at the full Moon.

Aries demands we know who we are. Libra insists there are others as well. The Capricorn Mars and Capricorn Saturn say we can build something long lasting from the tension between these two powerful impulses.

full Moon in Libra 2018

This is the full Moon, which sets the date for Easter and Passover. As I walk through the spring woods and meadows, I feel the tremendous surge of creativity and imagination, which comes from the energy of this moment.

Venus, the Lady of Love and all green things has just entered the sign of Taurus where she rules with delicious abandon.   It is she who leaves a green footprint on the land wherever she walks.

Apple Star        Sarah Fuhro

Somewhere in the apple

we call the human heart,

in the soft place,

next to the crisp place,

is a tiny star,

a star, which is the start,

of a long and ancient love story.

This is the love of magic

of Green Lady Venus,

and her pentacle step,

which touches

upon the spring soil,

which opens to the sky

above her mantle.

What will come from this joyous combination of Aries and Libra in your life?  The Creativity of the moment awaits your imagination!   Fiery energy and patient balance is the theme as you manifest your spring growth.

Moon Snake       Sarah Fuhro

Moon snake hangs like a ripe crescent

from a tropical branch, over my pillow.

Creamy white fur, white feathers,

stacked like tiny leaves,

a white rope in the clean wind,

a sickle, ready to harvest,

a dream, a Moon snake.

Moon snake sways

over the bed where I lie asleep.

Moon snake lowers

a leafy white body.

Fangs bite me sharp upon the sternum.

Poison sweeps through me.

The toxic potion excites my heart,

but stills my body. Paralysis: the river

where my blood flows is stopped.

I can’t move. I am done and undone.

In the morning I begin again.

While Moon snake, like the wind

has moved on.

Saturday, the New Moon in Scorpio offers a huge dose of potential creativity. Five celestial players in Scorpio will teach us to go deeper, beyond death, beyond birth, through the gates of chaos, through darkness and brilliant light. When challenged by Scorpionic forces we can always pull the blankets over our head, sit very still and see what happens, or take part in the action. The creativity of Scorpio is held in the seeds of the plants, which die in this season.   We cut down the plants in our garden and so we scatter the seeds.

This is the lunar month of Ngetal, the Reed. Ngetal stands knee deep in cold muddy water. He is not afraid of the chaos of transformation, where he lives. A swamp is a place of tremendous creativity and potential.   Trump’s call to ‘drain the swamp’ should warn us of how dangerous it is to be fearful of what cannot be named or categorized.   Swamps start the life process over and over. Sometimes they smell funny or harbor swarms of insects, but they are also a banquet for birds and mammals. They hold water during drought and absorb water in times of flood.   They are places of refuge for the hunted beast, the runaway slave, the child Moses in his basket of reeds.

The creative potential of this chart deepens when we look at the role played by Saturn. Saturn continues his fiery connection to the catalyst Uranus. This combination is one of the planetary signatures of this time, when the world seems to be in constant crisis. Saturn is traveling through the sign of Sagittarius where he wants to solidify spirit. The Sabian Symbol for Saturn’s degree is ‘A Sculptor at his Work. The ability to project one’s vision upon and to give form to materials.’ Amidst all the energetic sparks from the intense combination of planet energy, there is a focus upon a beautiful form, which is held in the collective but expressed through the individual.

A New Moon should be a time of quiet reflection, a moment to pull back and contemplatevolcanoes-orig what seeds will be planted to blossom at the time of the full Moon. Yet this new Moon has full Moon energy to agitate us and keep us moving!

Sun and Moon are meeting in Aries on April 7th at 7:23 AM EDT. Aries is already fiery and full of spring energy. The Sun is Exalted in Aries (more of that in a moment).

They are not alone in their conjunction. Revolutionary Uranus is there, two degrees away. Uranus makes demands upon us to move, to shake it up, to feel the courage to explore new territory. Yet somehow we know we must get off the spinning top of electronic demands that Uranus communicates to us.

ErisThat would be enough excitement, but Eris, dwarf planet named after the Goddess of chaos is mixed in this as well. Discord and confusion are tempting when there is more energy than we can handle. The Sun will make an exact conjunction with Lady Eris on April 12. This gives us time to focus where the courage needs to be applied in our life!

The day before the new Moon, there is a square to Pluto, who doesn’t let anything go unnoticed. He may travel incognito, but we may not. This is continued reverberation from the Pluto/Uranus square we have experienced over the last seven years. The lessons of push and pull are deeply embedded in us by now.

Aphrodite

In the core of our apple,

the planet earth,

dwells the great polestar

of the underworld-

Lord of Change,

Transformer eternal,

Hades himself.

With each breath

he draws into his lungs

the Universe begins anew.

He alone has the key

to every rusted lock.

Whoever has walked

across a freshly plowed

field at twilight

in spring’s season,

and raised loving eyes

to see the crescent

moon adorned

in diamond earring,

you are entering

the drama which

has no beginning

and knows no end.

This is also a ‘Super’ Moon, because the Moon is closest to the earth during this instant of new beginning. We are offered a gift of high energy and new spring potential in this poignant moment, which calls for retreat into a place of stillness!

Sun is considered exalted in Aries, which means he can work at his highest potential. It is the season of the spring equinox when the Sun enters the sign of Aries. It is the beginning of a new astrological cycle. 18° of Aries is considered an especially auspicious moment in the Sun’s journey through the ecliptic. If you have a gift of art, of clarity, a new dance to give, do not hold back.

magic carpet

The Sabian Symbol for this degree is ‘A Magic Carpet : The use of creative imagination.

A way of life refusing a hectic involvement in social competition and waste-producing overproduction allows for the development of unattached and transcendent understanding. The period of rest from outwardly directed activity bound to collective normality presents the creative mind with the possibility of surveying in dreams the totality of the present-day social situation, thus “to see whole.”

The fourth stage of the fourth five-fold sequence of symbols invokes the possibility of developing a new technique of perception, a strife-transcending and unattached outlook upon everyday reality.’

In the middle of all this fiery excitement we are at a degree of newness that suggests we pull back and meditate in a way that allows us to see things in a new way…’to see whole!’ How do we do this?

This is an especially condensed set of planets. Where do they fall in your chart? This willnew moon april 2016 be the theater of activity where you will feel this fiery rush of energy and drama. Give yourself the ‘Magic Carpet ‘ of Creative Visualization.

For me it takes place in my 9th House of philosophy, the search for meaning, for spiritual connection, for a world view that gives hope. No wonder I am suddenly devouring Gurdjieff! He calls for a personal revolution based upon self observation. This causes chaos and a deep commitment to ‘creative imagination,’ which Sun and Moon give us in their residence at the 18th degree of Aries.

This will be a new Moon of the Dandelion. I will take Dandelion flower essence from the ‘little Sun’ which bloomed from a crack in the cement dandelionnext to my house!
