‘The World is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.’

W.B. Yeats

Jelly fish moonAs the full Moon rises on Tuesday evening, she brings with her powerful planetary energies. If you have not felt this on a personal level, you can see it reflected in the world in general.

The choice seems to be about how we respond to fear, soul by soul, and as a woven tapestry of humanity.

Every culture has stories of the terror we hold for our own dark impulses.   In this chart we have the very unpredictable planet Uranus, who loves excitement, who demands truth from each of us, who is electrical, magnetic and full of brilliant observations holding the reins across the Cancer/Capricorn axis.

Uranus was discovered during the French Revolution, and reflects that tumultuous time. He overturns the apple cart.  Uranus is in Aries, the fiery entry point of the ecliptic. Uranus ‘squares’ Sun and Moon. His position at this time is like a puppet master behind the scene, pulling strings.

His companion the newly discovered dwarf planet is Eris, she who, ‘stirs up jealousy andFull Moon in capricorn
envy to cause fighting and anger among men.’ Eris is sister to Mars, in the old stories reflected in the sky.   And Mars, the warrior god is also in contact with the Sun and Moon at this time.

Perhaps you feel the huge amount of life force this combination churns up. It is neutral energy, and can be used, like electricity, for bright and dark purposes. This particular passage of high power planets is worth observing. The events transcribed in the chart are reflected in each of us.

Bag Noz

But there is much tenderness in this chart as well. Mercury and Venus huddle together in Leo, and speak of love and courage. They draw from Neptune’s deep well of spiritual language. This would be a wonderful full Moon for poetry that can be felt at a palpable level, the light shining through a crack in the dark sky.

‘The World is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.’   W.B. Yeats

Capricorn likes toField1 manifest in physical reality. Cancer suggests that not everything is in our hands. They each are the gatekeepers of the solstice moment, those moments of the year when the Sun stands still. Together they remind us that dark and light are in equal measure on our planet. As daylight shrinks in the Northern hemisphere, it begins to expand South of the equator.

Like this field full of Dandelions, each full Moon of our life, offers us the opportunity, to integrate opposing impulses.   As Sun and Moon face off at the time of Full Moonrise, we celebrate all that is confused and chaotic in our own psyche, in the world around us, and accept that wholeness demands contraries.

Tuesday,s  Capricorn Full Moon is about listening at a very deep level.   The Sabian Symbol for the Moon’s degree is about the evolution of the senses: ‘A large aviary, the enjoyment of spiritual values by the soul able to familiarize itself with their implications. Clairaudience.’

Dolly

Uranus, the puppet master for this Full Moon chart squares Sun and Moon and is thepower behind the drama they represent. The Sabian Symbol for his position is the challenge offered each of us at this time.

‘The possibility for man to gain experience at two levels of being.’  The revelation of new powers.   The symbol is a guarantee that man can operate successfully at two levels of consciousness..’Be open. Be able and willing to shape your translucent mind in the form revealing spiritual fulfillment. And you will be able to experience life and power on inner as well as outer planes.     It announces the possibility of a new step in evolution, but it is still only a possibility, a promise. We are  ON PROBATION.

Nameless

How to speak of it:

the bramble path to the heart,

the wind as it rolls flat all that

grew in the sweet fields of May.

As we cut away the dead branches

small green whiskers grow out

in such unexpected places.

The season of bread and sorrow

fast approaches. Lughnasadh

casts a shadow in the hot and golden

fields of summer, where cicadas thrum.

Unspeakable how, the Moon, as she rises

catches the light of the run away Sun,

who lies hidden beneath the earth.

Thursday’s full Moon in Virgo has grown from the Aquarius new Moon on February 18. The Sun at that moment was still minutes away from Pisces. So instead of learning about Pisces from inception, the Moon has grown from an Aquarian seed, to arrive at a perfect opposition to the Piscean Sun. She will experience her ‘newness’ in that sign at the next new Moon (March 20) as the Sun is about to depart from Pisces. This will take place moments from the Spring Equinox during a solar eclipse.

Like this squirrel in my back yard, are you confused? Surely this has happened to you at some point. It reminds me of learning how to use a new computer program just in time for it to become obsolete, scrambling to mesh what I was doing, and back tracking to understand the new program after using it. Or maybe, as a child, you learned one language, but now must think and speak in another without a formal introduction from the home front. Each sign is a language with its own flavor and emphasis. Virgo is always ready for analysis, for differentiation. Pisces delights in tearing down the boundaries between all things and floating in space. Since the full Moon is always in the sign opposite the Sun, there is an integration of elements that must take place. Perhaps this is the source of the excitement associated with a full Moon.   Of course, no full Moon takes place in a vacuum. There are other players who add interest, or mischief, or emphasis as the Sun and the Moon face off. RCI_Jewel_DancingCouple Small Web view The seventh and final square between Uranus and Pluto will take place on March 16.   The Uranus Pluto square has been in effect since 2012.   During this time we have felt the tension between these two powerful outer planets in a variety of ways personal and global. Many of the outer issues are a return to unfinished business from the late 60’s when Pluto and Uranus were cheek and jowel in Virgo. Revolution, evolution, transformation and repression are themes we experience inside and outside when these planets come into contact. In the case of this full Moon the square between Uranus and Pluto is powerfully felt by both Sun and Moon because they are close connected by degree. Uranus will make discomforting angles to both Sun and Moon.   And he’s nestled between Venus and Mars like the bold intruder who disrupts a harmonious couple.   Or perhaps he’ll learn the fine points of love and action from the two.   There may be some hard lessons in this mix for they are all poised in close proximity to the South Node in Aries, a suggestion that self reliance has its limits, and the power of partnership opens new possibilities. Full Moon in Virgo 2015 Pluto is in a comfy trine to the Moon, but doesn’t have clear a relationship to the Sun. He’s getting a lesson or two from Ceres, the Earth Mother Goddess, who hasn’t forgotten that her daughter Persephone was swallowed up in the Otherworld of Pluto. Perhaps they are once again discussing the terms for spring and the return of the Maiden. 220px-FredericLeighton-TheReturnofPerspephone(1891)

Kore     Sarah Fuhro Whoever has walked across a freshly plowed field at twilight, and raised loving eyes to see the crescent moon adorned by the evening star, you are entering the drama which has no beginning and knows no end. Once more the Maiden returns pure and slender to be gathered like wheat in the brown arms of her grieving mother. Once more we are freed from the dark shelter of womb and grave.

Jupiter is in the mix as well and can be seen in the picture below through cherry blossoms a few nights ago.   No cherry blossoms here in New England, but the Moon and Jupiter have been very beautiful in the clear night sky as the Moon passed through Leo on her way to Virgo. Jupiter, like Uranus is also in an off beat relationship to Moon and Sun. moon-jupiter-Masaaki-Shibuya-3-2-2015-e1425328808277

We are in the Moon of cycle of Nuin, Ash Tree. The Ash tree is associated with water, and was considered a suitable wood for oars as it was believed to be a charm against drowning.   Ash connects the three worlds, Abred, Gwynedd and Ceugent. Another way to look at the place of the Ash is to understand that it represents macrocosm and microcosm, as above, so below. With mighty banks of snow, I wait for the rush of water, which even with the cold weather is beginning to work its way into wall and cellar. A pipe broke and swamped our kitchen. Ash is a reminder of the mighty forces at work in the world, to transform solid material into flowing form. 1879905_f5b04a6b

A Full Moon in Gemini       December 6, 2014

In celebration of the full Moon in Gemini, we have a Uranus/Pluto square, astrological symbol of the past few years! This will be the sixth of seven exact squares stretched from 2012-2015. It will provide an extra injection of gabby energy into the electrical Gemini full Moon. A Gemini full Moon is already full of verbal overflow, Mercurial monkey mind, wide curiosity and unfinished business. The intellect is buzzing in several directions at once.

uranusskygod

Uranus, considered a higher expression of Mercury is in a close relationship to both Sun and Moon.   We are almost certain to hear or to take part in the rhetoric of spiritual or political concepts. Uranus was born from Chaos, and is both son and husband to Gaia, the earth mother. In our charts he plays the part of sculptor to our individuality. In the wider world he is the revolutionary, sometimes humanistic, sometimes anarchic. At the present time he is in Aries, the sign of Mars, while Mars is in his sign of Aquarius. I think this may have something to do with the deep urge towards war and the warrior’s response, whether it be the appeal of ISIS to young people from all over the world, or the ‘adult’ response to bomb and repress what looks chaotic and dangerous, each side upping the level of violence. If we are conscious of this impulse towards anger and defensive response, we may be able to transform it into actions that will be fueled by the energy of the moment, but will open new doors to understanding instead of destruction!  This will take a deep appreciation of silence and slowness which is at odds with the impulse to respond quickly and decisively.

Hades-et-Cerberus-III

The influence of Pluto is more difficult to discern because he stands ‘inconjunct’ Sun and Moon, but he is moving through this period with slow but deep powers of transformation. He is the god of the underworld, but it’s always important to remember he is also the god of ‘riches’ as in ‘Plutocrat’. That inexorable power that we associate with Hades/Death has treasures for us when we dare to delve into its depth.  The treasure we need on earth seems to be an unexpected appreciation of difference, which is a Sagittarian characteristic.

Fulll Moon in Gemini 2014

Mercury, who rules the sign of Gemini is cheek and jowl with the  Sun in Sagittarius. The opposition between the Moon in Gemini and Sagittarius is not as contrary as some others.   Both signs are concerned with education, travel, and a variety of communication. Both have an optimistic flavor, and perhaps that is because communication is central to human endeavor and evolution. Programs, which allow those traumatized by war or abuse to speak of their experiences, have showed amazing results to heal and transform pain into speech. Maybe that’s why the Greeks saw Hermes and Hades as natural companions.

Haides

Here’s a picture of Hades (Pluto) returning his stolen bride Persephone to the world of sunshine. He has the company of Hermes (Mercury) and Hekate, once Maiden, Mother and Crone, later demoted to goddess of magic and mystery, all things hidden from day light consciousness. This is an interesting combination of processional companions.  Mercury’s function is to help us think in new directions, rather than go round and round in obsession.  The relationship between Hades, Persephone, Hekate and Mercury is one that can open our eyes to new ways of seeing what is ‘good’ and what is ‘bad.’

Chiron the healer is also closely linked in this chart to the Sun and Moon, Uranus and Pluto. Demeter (Ceres) and Hera (Juno) are in the mix as well.   Chiron, like the symbol for Sagittarius is a centaur with the archer’s desire to hit the target. His healing powers were always balanced by his wound, which never healed despite his ability to heal others. Chiron in our chart speaks of a wound which can be turned into a healing power.

I think this time (and chart) of the full Moon are a moment of integration between the material world and the spiritual underpinnings of our consciousness.   We are fast approaching the moment of the Winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere and the Summer Solstice in the South.   The play of light dark at opposite extremes seems everywhere around us.

Impossible Feat

Here in the frantic and rundown part of my life

I halt to see if I am catching up with my shadow.

I yearn to tell about the pain of silence, to speak,

but cannot form the words which howl like wolves.

Surely, I can wait long enough for the sound

to catch up with my speedy travel through space.

The fall of leaves strike me as momentous

They cover the sound of my own fall into darkness.

I was here in a workaday world,

I held myself together with sound.

I turned a corner and found

I was lost in a fog, on a rocky cliff.

Below is tied the tiny dinghy

which will be my test and trial.

She rattles against the dark stones

oarless and rudderless for me to steer.

It’s a dream, it’s a dream!

I can wake and find the path home.

Shame is banished and I am free

of the odious task I cannot attain.

Then I experience disintegration,

not at an even pace, but in heartbeats.

Most of the pieces will get put back together

but not in their original form or place.

My nose may become my bellybutton,

my legs may take the place of my ears.

I know the rules of rebirth are written

on parchment invisible to the pregnant eye.

In the meantime I ask to be a mouthpiece

for the toad I saw eaten by snake much too slowly.

By now toad is snake and snake is robust with toad.

What seemed impossible has taken place.

The woodland path, no longer their theater,

is where I enter and perform my impossible feat.

Libra New Moon of Gort 2014

Raymondskill Falls, PAphoto: Bob Fuhro

We are at the point of balance between dark and light.   Monday night the equinox perfects that line of demarcation, and by Wednesday, the day of the New Moon, we are walking into the darker half of the year where we find what we could not see in bright light. There are other forces for change at work here as well. Pluto who has been traveling in what would seem ‘backward’ (retrograde) motion has stopped to change direction on Monday night just before the moment of the equinox. This takes place at 11° Capricorn, where the Sabian Symbol reminds us we have ‘The ability to explore unfamiliar realms and discover the laws underlying the complex processes of nature.’

Super Glalctic Center

The Sun and new Moon begin the journey of the next lunar month at 1° 07’ of Libra a hot spot in cosmic geography known at the Super Galactic Center. The Milky Way revolves around this black hole, and it is has a powerful parallel for anyone obsessively in love. Astrologer Philip Sedgewick makes a parallel to this kind of relationship to explain the power of the black hole..  Remember that Libra has much to with relationships, which are to be an act of balance.

balance-weight-scale1

‘As reported in Carlos Castaneda’s The Art of Dreaming, one of Castaneda’s initiations consisted of encountering a nagual, or sorcerer, known as the Defier of Death. The Defier carried a reputation as one of the oldest living sorcerers who would appear and make a deal with Castaneda. The nagual needed Carlos’ energy to continue on and would grant him something in return. It had to be an agreed deal – nothing could be surmised or assumed by presence or proximity. Castaneda persisted in just trying to “give” his energy to the sorcerer, but she (who was just recently a “he”) would have nothing of it. Don Juan, the sorcerer under whom Castaneda studied for years, warned Castaneda that this transaction could kill him and yet, was unavoidable. As the deal went down, the sorcerer granted Castaneda the ability to dream and gain total intra-dimensional perception such that he could perceive the nature of energy. Castaneda slipped into an altered state of consciousness that apparently lasted overnight. When Don Juan finally found Castaneda, he had existed in the shifted consciousness for nine days. As one in love often reports, “How time flies when you’re having ecstatic fun.” Regardless, an extreme, possibly cosmic energy transaction resulted, mutually benefiting both parties, despite the potentially doubtful appearances of the deal.’ http://www.philipsedgwick.com/Galactic/ZS.htm.

Black hole

Another powerful place in this chart is the square between Mars in Sagittarius and Neptune in Pisces.   Mars in Pisces knows that he is right and justice demands action. Neptune in Pisces looks into an oceanic miasma and asks how Mars can be so certain. Mars in Sagittarius can combine with Neptune in Pisces through song and meditation. This might be the combination which will change the political climate. As the righteous anger of Mars combines with the compassion of Neptune, love and deep understanding may prove to be a greater weapon than anger.

Gort is the Moon of Ivy, a vine which grows in spirals, a representation of resurrection, to return again on each spiral round of the journey.   It was ivy that Bacchanals chewed in their mad revels in honor of Dionysus. Ivy is the traditional symbol of the wine tavern in England.   it seems a suitable symbol for the astrology chart which also moves in endless circles round our earth.      ivy pub sign

A New Moon in Pisces, March 1, 2014

young_moon http://indigo2crystal.wordpress.com/2013/12/01/astrology-for-december-1-7-2013/

Saturday morning at 3:00 am, we will have the birth of a new Moon cycle.   Pisces Sun and Moon snuggle between Neptune in Pisces and Chiron in Pisces.  The potential for the dream, the vision, the healing power of meditation are all present, so is confusion, illusion, and mystification. Pisces is the realm where the spiritual is as tangible as the material, but for those of us locked into a material viewpoint, it can be a place of foggy confusion.

To put this all into words from the wordless ocean of Pisces, Mercury stands by in Aquarius.  He has only recently turned direct, and so has visited these watery shores, and will revisit them as he goes forward through Pisces.  Here he is looking over his shoulder to recall his journey in reverse from Pisces into Aquarius.

Mercury retrograde

http://thedreamtribe.com/wp-content/uploads/romanmercury.jpg

We need his Aquarian mental clarity to translate the poetry of this particular Moon event.  Neptune is a ruler of Pisces and so deepens the message of Sun and Moon adrift in a sea of oneness. The healing nature of this sign is compassion, an opportunity to feel our deep connection with all.  Vulnerability becomes a means to deepen our understanding; Pisces is the ‘give away’ sign before the noisy entrance of the Sun into Aries and the Spring Equinox.

The Pluto/Jupiter opposition is in this mix as well.  Pluto in Capricorn with his powerful work of breaking down the old structures of government and business is in a sextile with the Piscean players.  His contact is most exact with Chiron, the healer.  Perhaps we will begin to envision a new and more compassionate form of healing.  As we remember that our bodies are the healers, we can trust the process of recovery, rather than see it as a battle to be won or lost.  Chiron, the great healer of the ancient world was a centaur, part man, part horse, and his connection to body recalls this animal part of our self, who knows what it needs to be healthy.

 chiron-new-centaur

 http://www.theoi.com/image/K15.3Kheiron.jpg

This is the Moon of Fearn, the Alder, a water loving tree, just as Pisces is a water loving sign!

Alder trunks are the pilings under the older sections of Venice and many medieval cathedrals.  The tree is linked to Bran the Blessed, who used his body as a bridge for his followers to cross the river Linon to safety.  He is a bridge between the worlds, and, after his death, his tribesman carried his head for seven years while he sang and prophesied. The head of Bran was then buried under the White Tower of London and is guarded by ravens, his special bird. The Alder can be used as a blood purifier and lymph cleanser.   It can guard the body as Bran guarded his people.

alder

Jupiter in Cancer makes an exact trine with Sun and Moon as well as spilling over onto Neptune and Chiron, while standing in opposition to Pluto.  Uranus makes a square to both Pluto and Jupiter, creating a triangle with revolutionary potential.  During this ongoing square between Pluto and Uranus we have seen a number of revolutions seem to crumble into chaos, rather than open to possibility.  Is there another way to create change?

The Sabian Symbol for this new Moon is seems to refer to this quandary:   Men traveling a narrow path, seeking illumination.   The capacity inherent in every individual to seek, at whatever cost, an entrance to a transcendent realm of reality.   Walk ON!

Full Moon in Reed (Ngetal)

Winter approaches the Northern Hemisphere, and the Sun is low in the sky.  The Moon rises ever higher and seems so much brighter than she did in spring and early summer!   The full Moons of autumn light the sky even as the Sun withdraws to the South, leaving us with short days and long nights.

Last night, as the almost full Moon shed her enchanting blue light on all the world, I saw a deer dance across the road in front of my car. Her beauty and celebratory mood were a perfect representation of the Taurus Moon. On Sunday, November 17, 10:16 am the Moon will reach her perfect full pulse, but until then we will see her each night, beating her great sky drum,  already in Taurus, ready to celebrate the joys of the earth.  Taurus is under the rulership of Venus, and the Moon is ‘exalted  (fully expressive) in this sign.  Once a year the full Taurus Moon marks a time to celebrate our planet’s beauty and joy reflected in her sister the Moon’s bright light.

Moon is in ‘detriment,’ not comfortable, in the opposite sign, Scorpio, ruled by Mars. While Taurus celebrates all that is sensual and earthy, Scorpio teaches us to look behind, beneath and beyond the visible world into the realm of darkness and mystery.  This full Moon teaches us to dance between these opposing signs and impulses, to celebrate the beauty and generosity of the earth and the deeper mystery of what cannot be seen, felt, or touched.   Each full Moon we have the opportunity to bridge a polarity of signs and season, while appreciating each end of the opposition.

During the Ngetal Moon cycle, our lunar lady goes from detriment at the new Moon, when she is in Scorpio, to her sign of exaltation in Taurus when she is opposite the Sun.  Here’s a cosmic lesson for us all!

Since we are on the subject of rulership and oppositions, this TaurusMoon/Scorpio Sun  moment has a tight conjunction between Pluto (the co-ruler of Scorpio) and Venus the ruler of Taurus.  Together they are in the sign of Capricorn, the builder.  Is this a potent moment for understanding between widely diverse impulses and points of view?  Venus and Pluto would seem to have nothing in common.  Venus is about love, beauty, art, sensuality and relationship.  Pluto is the lord of death, the implacable truth teller of dark secrets bubbling to the surface.  Both guard their kingdoms jealously.  Yet they are cheek to cheek in the sky, even as the Taurus Moon reflects the Sun’s Scorpionic light.   Both are in a square (90 degree relationship  to revolutionary Uranus and sextile (60 degrees)  to the healer Chiron.   This may be the moment to understand your enemy’s point of view, to create unification between polar opposites.  If we turn to Chiron’s healing arts as we listen to each other, we can create a world more humane for everyone.

Mercury is in this mix with Pluto, Venus, Uranus and Chiron.  He is the messenger from the Scorpionic kingdom, ruled by Mars and Pluto.  Mercury can be the neutral force in many oppositions.    He is the messenger, and not the message.  He’s the voice that neither side of an argument wants to hear.

full moon of Ngetal 2013

Now look at this further message about polar opposites: the Sun’s magnetic field is about to flip!  ‘This reversal happens every 11 years and is tied to the sun’s cycle of activity, now near its peak. The effects of the reversal will ripple throughout the solar system.’ http://earthsky.org/space/suns-magnetic-field-poised-to-reverse-polarity-scientists-say

A youtube video explains this phenomenon in greater depth. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34gNgaME86Y.   This is expected to happen in the next few days. What was happening in your life 11 years ago, when the last solar flip occured?   The 911 attacks took place at the beginning of this cycle, we began a series of wars in the Middle East,  the omnipresence of the internet was about to change every moment of our lives.  As we bring these cosmic events into our consciousness, we can find balance in a period of readjustment, fueled by powerful forces of polarity.                         Happy Full Moon and Sun Flip!
